My bucket list… first up, a marathon!

Monthly Archives: June 2012

Hey everyone! Last time, I posted pictures as a source of inspiration, so this time I’m going to focus on words of inspiration! I have found them very motivating and touching, so I hope you feel the same way! I will try my best to cite the website I got them from.

“Live your life out loud!” They sing. “You deserve a brilliant life!”

…It’s about intuition, gratitude, power and connection. It’s about living a life filled to the brim with JOY.

It’s about believing with all of my heart what Pat B. Allen told me,

“We owe it to the world to be as ALIVE as we can. To give what is unique in us to give.”

“You started something. You were passionate and in love with the ideas swirling and twirling in your heart and you were vibrating on a super high plane all ready to shoot off into the sky and burst with light and life and rain down millions of golden stars onto the Earth.

And then you stopped.

Something slowed you down. You got tired. You had a child, or took a 9-5 job, or both. You forgot what it was you were so excited about in the first place. You lost sight of the sky.

I give you permission to start again.

Building something new, living outside your comfort zone and making peace with the possibility that all your efforts are being spent in vain is HARD. Hard as in scary, tiring, complex, complicating, filled with rejection, laborious, tempestuous, grinding, merciless and unrelenting (and yes, I got all of those words using

also, I just read this post and thought it was really sweet! It makes me want to reach out to a stranger and help them, even if it’s in a small way!

lastly, here are two youtube videos that are just too cute to pass up!

Bohemian Rhapsody on the way to school:

and Best marriage proposal ever?

Ok, thats all for now! I’ve got to go but I’ll definitely try to do more inspiration posts in the future!

Here’s to next week: I hope it is as great as this week!

Also, I can’t believe I am already 25% of the way through the 20 week program!!

I hope it continues to be this wonderful for the next 15 weeks!

Thanks for all of the support and have a great week!

Alright, so after last weeks lack of motivation, I really feel like I need to try harder to inspire myself and others around me. So, here are some inspirational pictures to get us motivated! Now get out there and make your dreams happen!

Sorry for the huge picture dump! Hopefully one strikes a chord with you. I will do a separate post soon that features words of inspiration! Have a great day everyone 😀

Here’s a recap of week 3:

Mon: Rest + worked all day!

Tues: Rest + worked all day!

Wed: 5 miles

Thurs: 5 miles

Fri: Rest + work

Sat: 7 miles

Sun: Rest + work

And for week 4, I didn’t run at all until today (Sunday – 3 miles).

So……. the lesson to be learned from these awful two weeks:

I need to make time to run! I need to find the balance in my life and work on time management. Once my class in done in 2 weeks and work settles down it will get easier, but I need to stop making excuses! I need to live an excuse-free life! I also need to find the discipline to run consistently, or else I will never have enough training to succeed.

So, my goal this week is to RUN EVERYDAY and to find time and balance in my life.

I started running with a good friend of mine from high school who is finally home for the summer! I am so excited that he is supportive of my marathon goal and wants to help me get there! He is one of the only people so far who has actually been supportive, and I am so thankful for good friends like him!

Does anyone have advice for staying consistent in running everyday? Or for time management or self discipline? I could really benefit from any tips and tricks! One friend of mine on dailymile (facebook for runners!!! go check it out!!!) suggested that food is a great motivator.

Here is her trick: if you don’t run, you don’t get any sweets or junk food that day!

I think that is a great idea for me!!! I need to have a better diet and I need to run more, so this might help me balance both things!

So anyway, I am excited to start fresh this week and make up for some lost miles! Please let me know if you have any advice or tips for me! Have a great week 😀

So, I ended up taking a much longer break than anticipated. I worked the last 6 days, and just had NO energy whatsoever. I had no motivation to run, all I wanted to do was sleep. But after the past day or two of catching up on rest, I finally returned from my 4-day hiatus from running…. thank goodness! I really need some inspiration and motivation! But today I did a 5 miler while my little brother skateboarded nearby and kept my mind off of the running. It was a blast! We just told stories the whole time… I love that boy!!!! He’s growing up so fast… He’s only half an inch shorter than me!

Anyways, let me know if you have any inspiration tips and tricks, because I sorely need some!

I just started Born to Run last night in an attempt to motivate myself to run. I am only 10 pages in or so, but I’m hopefully going to read some more tonight! I also started The Pinball Theory of the Apocalypse today, I’m borrowing it from a friend. Andddddd I have a midterm and paper due Saturday that I haven’t started! Andddd I have orientation for work on Friday, my grandma flying in Saturday, and a million other things going on….. So we’ll see how the week goes!

Also, I just discovered a new blog that I like called Enjoying the Small Things ( I am an avid reader of the Whatever blog ( because I love her photography so much! But I stumbled across a post on the former blog about making a weekly bucket list, and it really struck a chord with me. One of my favorite suggestions was “Pay for someone’s order behind me in the drive through line.” I think that’s such a neat idea! I’m going to try that before the week is over, and I’ll let you know how it goes! But it also reminded me of the current active project on one of my all-time favorite blogs BOOOOOOOM ( I have followed this site religiously for at least 3 years and love everything Jeff Hamada curates. The active project right now is called Booooooom Challenges and it correllates with the weekly bucket list. Right now the challenge is “Buy someone else lunch for absolutely no reason” and before it was something along the lines of “Smile at a stranger today.” This really inspired me as well. So, without further ado, here is my weekly bucket list:

  • Pay for someone’s order behind me in the drive through line
  • Smile at a stranger
  • Run 7 miles
  • Have a family movie night
  • Read for an hour a night
  • Start an art project
  • Start core and balance in my training
  • Do all of the scheduled workouts this week!

I am hoping that even though these are small things, they will add up to be something big! I love making people smile and I hope that I can make the most of my time at home with my family, the most of my time at work by helping my coworkers and guests, and the most of my free time by doing things I love!

Thanks for reading!

Hey everyone!

Soooooo, it’s been a long week. I worked a lot last week and this week. I’m in the middle of working 6 days in a row at the moment, so I’m just plain exhausted! 5:30am shifts are the WORST.

Anyway…. Here’s a recap of week 2 of training for my first-ever marathon!

Mon: rest

Tues: 4 miles

Wed: 5 miles

Thurs: 4 miles

Fri: 3 miles

Sat: rest

Sun: 4 miles (for tomorrow!)

Which brings my week’s mileage to 20 miles, and my subtotal for weeks 1 and 2 to 34 miles!

Thanks for the support everyone!
